Friendly reminder the next CNC interest group is Saturday from 12:15-2:15 following the toy workshop at Kellogg’s, 1116 West Blvd. The City will be blocking off West Blvd from South to Fairview Street that afternoon for an evening block party. This means if you park in front of my house you might get blocked in before you leave. Suggest you park on side streets Clark or Fulton.
I have had a few questions on material settings, gaps, etc., so I thought I might use my latest project and show you what happens when you cut using VCarve, Material Boundaries, Vector Boundaries, Model Boundaries, or levels, and why you really should check gap settings before you generate tool paths. I have 3 new displays for the shelf of shame demonstrating this. As always, show and tell items or other topics/questions are welcome. I have one question of moldings that we will try to discuss providing there is time. Stu Kellogg

Ken and Cori have both raised the issue to feathers during the carving process. For Nov. 1, I am proposing a little experiment cutting a small circle with 3-4 cutters on 3-4 woods. I have ordered 3 new (pricey) cutters to complement my existing ones; one upcut, one downcut, and one spiral. We will see if it makes a difference or not.
I have bitten the bullet and upgraded to Aspire version 12.5. I can now load your 12.5 V-Carve files directly into Aspire 12.5 so it will give us a little more compatibility. I can save my files as V-Carve 12.5. I have successfully loaded a V-Carve file from Michael and we will double check that the reverse is true before the next meeting.
Topics for the Future
Michael is pretty excited about using a clearance tool for moulding. Maybe we can twist his arm for Dec. meeting ?
It is difficult to work on projects for RCWA at these meetings but maybe we can share some ideas for helping RCWA ?
